Serra de Monchique Golf Club is the club associated with Silves Golf Course. The club aims to provide competitions, control handicaps and to provide a social life for its members guided by the values statements authorised by the membership. Its rules are set up to provide a structure around which the club can be run.
Serra de Monchique Golf Club was formed in 2005, at Morgado de Reguengo when the regular players were invited to form a club. There were 30 founder members and the first General Meeting of the membership was held on 8th November 2005. At the end of 2006 the club moved to Silves Course, which had just opened. Mark Ellerton was appointed Captain for 2007. Pestana's very favourable terms of green fee arrangements led to an substantial increase in membership in 2008. Many Northern European countries are represented, including a number of Portuguese members.
The club plays competitions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Tuesdays are for singles competitions either as Monthly medal or Stableford Qualifier. On Thursdays some members play at Silves in a format of their own choice, but many members elect to play on the other courses within the Pestana group. On Saturdays there is a wide variety of game formats, normally as team competitions as pairs or teams of four players. There are occasional qualifying competitions on Saturdays to suit our members who are in full time employment. Our eventlist will show these.

The fifth annual Silves Charity Golf Day jointly hosted by SICG and SdM was held on Friday 5th July 2019. As a result of the generosity of sponsors, members and their guests, in excess of 5,000 euros was raised for the Captain’s Charities; Algarvean Oncology Association (Cancer diagnosis and support) and Santa Casa da Misericordia de Albufeira Charity (children’s homes).

A group of 39 members and their partners enjoyed warm weather and lots of fun in Spain. 31 golfers
competing over 2 or 3 days and 8 ladies of leisure who either, relaxed by the pool, indulged in Spa
treatments or went sightseeing. On the second day 10 people watched the fantastic equestrian
display in Jerez.

SdM recorded probably their best result so far this season with a fabulous result beating league leaders Floresta Parque 4-1.
With a largely inexperienced side SdM beat a very strong Floresta Parque side who are reknowned for their durability and nous. Full of long hitters and low handicappers the home side knew they were in for a tough match.

Another beautiful Algarvean winters day saw a large turn out welcome in new Captain Mel Huxtable and said farewell and thank you to departing Captain Euan Pyper.
Euan putted out on the 18th green accompanied by some Scottish pipe music, we then all transfered to the first tee singing a song written by Mags Taylor to the tune of "This is the way to Amarosa" where Mel hit the first tee shot of the day, a remarkable for Mel 149 meters!

Euan Pyper and myself were able to visit the site of our new clubhouse today. First impressions were very positive. The clubhouse is obviously bigger inside than it looks from the outside. A quick measure reveals it's about 3 times larger than our present one. We should have the capacity to seat approximately 120 people inside. With massive folding glass windows and very high ceiling the space will be light and airy. We will also have a log fire for those cold winter days.
The terrace will have a fantastic view of the final green, also there will be more views of the course to the side.

This year's competition saw 88 SdM members fighting for the Presidents Trophy. On a day that thankfully remained dry there were many stories of good scores. The winners will be announced at the Presentation ceremony later this week and will appear here soon after.
